In Division 1 of the Special Olympics Ulster Basketball League Shimna Stars ended the season in a highly commended second place. This was after a massive game against NorthWest SOC A and a comprehensive win over Antrim Borough SOC in game two. All the bench were used in this game and deserve credit for the support shown to each other. The selection of passes and team play were a treat to watch. Congratulations to the entire panel: Sean Brannigan, CJ.Hennessy, Liam Hennessy, Patrick Hennessy, David McCrum, Niall Rogan, Laurence Swift, Aaron Watt, Peter Watts, Noel Wilson and also to Glenn McBride and Jordan Carville who were unavailable on the day. League update
March 2014
Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club travelled to Templemore Sports Complex in Derry to compete in the penultimate round of league fixtures for 2014.
Although the full panel of players were unable to attend this fixture, those who did enjoyed a great day out and continued the upward trend in team play and individual performances.
The first game of the day was against old adversaries Antrim Borough Special Olympics Club. Shimna started brightly and despite missing several easy scoring chances took the lead at half time - 19pts -2pts.
On the resumption Shimna once again pressed Antrim and eventually ran out convincing winners.
Game two featured the highly acclaimed North West Special Olympics Club so far undefeated in the league. Shimna not content to sit back and admire North West went on the attack but failed to capitalise on early scoring opportunities. Gradually the more physical North West side began to dictate play and picked up easy baskets on the fast break.
While North West dominated the first half; however Shimna pushed them all the way in the second period and showed great skill and determination in trying to claw back the early North West lead.
With one round of fixtures to come in early June Shimna Stars look well placed to capture second place in this their first year playing in the higher grade. The finals day in June will also include a skills session for all club athletes and everyone is encouraged to attend that day. Full details nearer the date.
Well done to all who travelled on the day. Excellent performances all round. The team has progressed a great deal in the past few months and with extra work on our defence over the next month we will be pushing North West once again for honours.
Many thanks to Club Volunteer Mark who helped by officiating some of the games.

November 2013
Shimna Stars made the long journey to Letterkenny on Saturday past to compete in Division 1 of the Ulster League. This year each team in the league have been guaranteed two games at each event. First up for Shimna was the formidable team from Northwest Special Olympics Club, rated to be one of the best in the Province. Reputations mean very little to this Shimna squad who went about their business and took the game to Northwest. Despite losing a very competitive game which had the crowd on their feet Shimna proved that with continued practice and stronger team play they will be a force to be reckoned with as the league progresses. Game two was against Antrim Borough Special Olympics Club, this proved to be more difficult in the initial stages as Shimna took a considerable time to settle after the exertions of game one. However perseverance preserved and Shimna eventually ran out winners.
Congratulations to the entire squad for a great effort on the day.
With continued practice and teamwork Shimna Stars will become a better TEAM.
Squad: Glenn McBride, Sean Brannigan, Aaron Watt, Patrick Hennessy, Niall Rogan, Peter Watts, Liam Hennessy, David McCrum
