East Ulster Friendly Shield
Shimna Stars attended the annual East Ulster Friendly Shield competition, this year hosted by Ards Wizards Special Olympics Club in Bangor Academy on Saturday last. Due to the recent increase in club numbers Shimna were able to field two highly competitive mixed teams.
Competing against teams from, Ards, Antrim and Carrick both teams gave off their best in what was a feast of basketball and great entertainment for those family members in attendance.
The Shimna ‘A’ team went through the day undefeated dropping only 1 point after a very exciting game against rivals Antrim Borough SOC. Such was the endeavour of both teams that a draw was called after the game went into overtime, as neither team deserved to lose and they could not be separated on the score board.
When the final results were announced Antrim Borough SOC were placed 3rd, Ards Wizards SOC 2nd and Shimna Stars SOC were declared the overall winners. Another great success for Shimna Stars , congratulations to all the athletes and volunteers who assisted on the day and many thanks to Ards Wizards for hosting an excellent day out.
Great performances by the athletes on both teams. The final games were very competitive and there were lots of tips picked up during the day which will serve players well for future games.
