Feast of Basketball in St.Malachy’s High School.
Shimna Stars hosted this year’s East Ulster Interclub Friendly Tournament in the excellent facilities of St.Malachy’s High School on Saturday past.
The tournament attracted a total of 9 teams from various Special Olympic Clubs, 3 teams from Antrim SOC, 1 from Aquinas Belfast, 1 from Ards SOC, 2 teams from the host club plus 2 junior teams also from Shimna SOC.
All the teams displayed great skill and no lack of enthusiasm for the games. As the semi-finals approached it was nip and tuck all the way. In the first semi-final Ards SOC, undefeated in their section accounted for newcomers Aquinas. In the second semi-final Antrim A defeated Shimna Stars by the narrowest of margins, the game going into overtime.

Showing great skill and accuracy Ards SOC became the 2012 winners of the East Ulster Friendly Shield and thus ended the event undefeated, an excellent day all round.
Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all the volunteers, parents, supporters, the staff of St. Malachy’s High School and anyone who helped out on the day.
