Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club Annual General Meeting
The AGM of Shimna Stars Special Olympics Club was attended by the largest number of club athletes, parents and club volunteers in recent years.
Chairman Daniel Hardy thanked the athletes, parents, volunteers and all those who contributed to the continued success of the club in any way. The club which has been in existence for 5 years has grown in numbers and goes from strength to strength each year.
Club Treasurer Donna Cochrane presented a comprehensive financial report detailing the Income & Expenditure for the year 2011/12.
A range of matters was discussed by those present. One major item was the entry of the club in the Special Olympics Basketball League for 2012/13. This will ensure regular competition and increased opportunities for the athletes to enhance their skills and make new friends.
The league will run from November 2012 to June 2013 with the ultimate aim of preparing athletes for Olympic team selection.
As the majority of officers have now served 5 years or more, efforts will be made to recruit and encourage new members to serve in committee roles during the coming year.
Many thanks to Cathy Hunter from Special Olympics Ulster who attended the meeting giving her support to the club, and also to the athletes, parents and volunteers for their time and support.
